It’s been over three years since the last instalment of our Jazz Bizniz series, and after much deliberation over which tracks to include, we are ready to unleash “Jazz Bizniz 4” on to the oversubscribed compilation market. As with previous volumes, all tracks are culled from independent labels and most have never been released in Europe before.

"Jazz Bizniz 4" has all the hallmarks of previous volumes, which have become an essential purchase for anyone remotely interested in the roots of what is now flippantly referred to as ´nu jazz´.

The album covers a wide spectrum of styles, from soul/jazz, modal and funk to African, Latin and even soul and disco sounds. The emphasis is on raw, live performances that have stood the test of time. Whether the tracks were recorded in the 1960´s, 70´s, 80´s, 90´s or in the 2000´s (all these decades are present and correct!), they all have that ´Jazz Bizniz´ flavour.

Brilliant album. They've done it again. Lots of great tracks we've never heard of.
Played Sal Davis 'Makini' on show 4th Dec
Gilles Peterson (BBC radio 1)

thanks for this. amazing comp mate, right up there with the first 3!! Maybe ever better!! Strong female vocals and killer instrumentals galore
Love it.
Dom Servini (wah wah, London)

Hi Jake and crew, i would just like to say thank you for sending me a fantastic compilation. It is a great listen from beginning to end and it's so nice to be exposed to tracks i have never heard before. Blinding music and really looking forward to playing tracks out.

Hey Jake I love the New Jazz Biz record. It may be my favorite to date. I am still digesting the entire album to determine my favorites
James Collins (Fertile Ground)

absolutely nice to have the jazz bizniz back!!!
Both tunes wet the apetite for the whole comp, more surprises on there i guess. Can't wait to have the whole JAZZ BIZNIZ 4 in my hands.
Michael Rutten (Soulsearching radio, Germany)

Really great compilation will be supporting heavily on the radio.
Robert Luis (Tru Thoughts)

a yes,..thanks a lot for sending me the jazz biznizz 4,loooove it, playing it a lot on radio...
Eddie Ramich (Compost Records)

Just to let you know that I'm loving "Jazz Bizniz 4", in particular- Phavia, Lamont Johnson and Lillian Alexander..mighty stuff!
Good luck with the latest release in this fine series. Richard Searling (Soul Sauce/ Smooth FM)

What can I say about it? Quality, quality and more quality..
When it comes to comps I've never been a big fan, but.....this is how they ALL should be. This is the benchmark. No throwaway tunes, excellent artist information, deep, exciting and obscure music. 10 out of 10.
Stuart Chalk (New Jazz Spectrum/ Juice FM)

Two killer cuts on a funky 45 -- both issued as part of the Jazz Bizniz 4 compilation! "Makini" is a soulful romper with a bit of an Afro groove -- almost a so-Cal 60s exotic soul number -- with vocals called out playfully, some honking sax in the middle, and a guitar-driven rhythm that's totally great! "Glass" is pretty spacey at the start -- lots of weird electronics, almost a bit noisy -- but the tune then rolls into a warmly modal jazz groove that's completely sublime!

Really feeling the Jeff Resnick track. Will play on the radio.
Ben Morris (ApaceMusic)

Counterpoint has once again dug deep inside their mystic jazz vaults to compile another exquisite helping of 'Jazz Bizness.' ESSENTIAL addition to your collection.

What a treat is Jeff Resnick's "Glass", that's a proper find!!! Really looking forward to the full album
Simon Harrison (Basic Soul Radio, UK)

These are a couple of crackers!! Will most def be play listed on my next radio show and I'm going to be on the look out for these when they land over here.
Paul Gamblin (Black & Blue show, Australia)

"Jeff Resnick - Glass - killer modal dancefloor business complete with spacey sound effects and a fantastic horn arrangement finale. love it! Sal Davis - Makini - cheeky mod jazz vocal groover. Will play both out and on my radio show!"
John Cunningham (Here & Now Recordings)

"This tasty Jazz Bizniz 4 sampler indicates that the sheer quality of the most enjoyable compilation series in the bizniz will continue. Sampler's first track 'Makini' from Sal Davis, being something slightly different with its African emphasis, will be a dancefloor winner at our club, no doubt about it. The 2nd track 'Glass' from Jeff Resnick is a beautiful and rolling jazz pearl - literally brings me cold shivers in a brilliant way. Can we get an extended version!
Vesa Yli-Pelkonen (Club Wahoo!, Helsinki, Finland) - "

I played both tracks at the Dexter Jazzdance here in Denmark. They all went crazy on the dancefloor. Specially the Glass-track. It rocked the house as in a stage collapse! I have a few bibles with me when I play for the dancefloor and the Jazz Bizniz-series are some of them. I'm looking forward to hear the rest. Groovy greetings,
Katrine Ring (Vibezone, Denmark)

"Glass" is amazing tune. Introductions is cosmic noise, and then goes to ultra beauty modal jazz, and at last cosmic noise comes again. If Sun Ra, Dick Hyman, Wayne Shorter, Freddie Hubbard, Kenny Burrell are jamming, this tune is out. "Makin" is funnky tune, but I'm supprised it's by Tanzanian vocalist. Groovy mod tune with afro jazz feeling.
Mitsuru Ogawa (DMR/ Japan)

Many thanks for sending the Jazz Bizniz - link. the 'Makini' thing is an absolutely brillant groove.
Ralf Zitzmann (Agogo Records/ Germany)

Jazz Bizniz is still alive & well!! Love both cuts, but it's gotta be the Jeff Resnick that I'm gonna play til the wheels come off the wagon. I'm reserving my vinyl copy now.
9/10
Sammy Goulbourne (Otherside Radio show, New Style Radio, Birmingham)

I like both tunes, with Makini taking the biscuit. Will def' play on the radio show.
Andrew Jervis (Ubiquity Records/Kusf, San Francisco)

CounterPoint's Jazz Bizniz series is a MUST for those who are into jazz and afro related sounds. Throught this latest edition I, again, discovered some wonderful joints I never heard or seen before. Simply gorgeous music!
